Unknown Constellations (series)

2011 | mixed media on canvas | dimensions variable

Tanah Air Beta (Indonesia)

2011 | mixed media on unstretched canvas | 130 x 70 cm
Collection of Prof Alastair Pearce

Statement:
I used to think of maps as merely just part of geography lesson which has its function to identify and gives information about certain places. However in this work, I am attracted to the aesthetics of the natural shapes of islands which are the result of the shifting and changing of earth from time to time. Coming from Indonesia, I am particularly drawn to the islands of Indonesia which gives me an idea in a new way of looking at the disparate and scattered islands that make up Indonesia.

Through interpreting these shapes and parts of Indonesia into a drawing filled with different colours that I associate with childhood woodblock toys, I wish to evoke a sense of nostalgia and memory of the country which I grew up in.

The painting is featured in Cartographic Desire Exhibition at Project Space, LASALLE College of the Arts, Singapore on 11 - 25 August 2011, curated By Hazel Lim

Go Fishing (Go the Distance)

2011 | mixed media on unstretched canvas| 78 x50 cm
is about the voyage of two explorers who are searching what they have been looking for. This idea is inspired by Disney’s Hercules OST by Michael Bolton -Go the Distance.

And I won't look back I can go the distance
And I'll stay on track  No, I won't accept defeat
It's an uphill slope But I won't lose hope
Till I go the distance And my journey is complete

"Go Fishing (Go the Distance) " is featured in Noise Singapore Festival Showcase 2012 at B4 ION Orchad, Singapore on 16 Feb - 4 Mar 2012.

The Promises You Said

2011 | pen, gouache, spray paint, acrylic on canvas | 50 x 50 cm
Inspired by Bible story in Genesis 15:5 about the promises of God to Abraham, I am interpreting the countless stars in the night sky that I signify as the dreams
I wish to fulfill into painting filled with a variety of colors.
